Changing my mind (again)
In your absence (sorry, I didn't let you in for a while), things have changed around here.
What a long time you haven't heard from me! What silence I kept! And what has actually happened?
So there are a few things gone and a few things added. And that's because, once again, I turned everything upside down, I changed my mind. As you could read in my blog post from more than a year ago (writer yes/no), I wondered if I was actualy a writer.
I started writing five years back, because I felt I could no longer cram ‘everything I wanted to say’ into a painting. I started this blog and actually have quite a few posts on there. I also wrote quite a few guest blogs for three different websites.
But in late 2023, the words slowly dried up. And I started a short course on collage, to rekindle my creativity.
And it caught on!
Full of enthusiasm, I made different patterns, backgrounds and eventually a whole series of small paintings. They even ended up in two shops!
Until the summer of 2024 came and the time called for a different kind of creativity: making concerves: jam, sauce, soup, juice... The last year's harvest is (sadly almost gone) in our little storage waiting to be eaten.
In autumn, I started two short courses in painting again, abstract this time. But I got lost. I felt like a ship on a vast ocean, without a goal, without a port to reach. For months, I didn't touch the brush. I just didn't know how to start again.
I was questioning myself…
What is my style anyway?
What do I want to convey and how????
What materials and techniques do I use to do so????
While wandering the endless sea of these questions, I decided to ‘clean up’ my own website once again.
And that gave me an insight: I am a multi-creative thing! Sure enough! I knew it, I had even written it down, but then I had completely forgotten about it again.
After all, I like a lot of things, I like change and prefer to focus on a theme, style, subject for just a little while before I want to move on. Been there, done that, lesson learned, on to the next one.
And most of all I like Painting, Writing and Homesteading.
These are the three overarching components. Although my pen will certainly also come out of its case for this from time to time, I currently prefer to have the brush in my hand, after I used the spade.
So what is my plan with this substack?
I think.... mainly keep you up to date with what's going on here: in my head, on paper, on the land. Because as the subtitle of my page says: No ordinary life, no ordinary blog.
We're going to see, where it flows. Will you flow with me? Then subscribe!
Love,
Daphne
Ps. The last year I, on and off, posted the guest blogs I wrote during the first years of blogging, I hope you did see them! If not, you can still reread them. The themes were Japan, HSP and Concious Consuming.
